We had 15 players for our event last Friday who came out to challenge The Crossings golf course. Almost everyone experienced the 3 putt challenge that this course can easily give you. And then many of you found the “environmentally sensitive areas” which some how had a magnetic pull to swallow up golf balls. How quickly can a par turn into a double or triple bogey. Nobody in our group was able to make par on the number one handicap hole #6. And even the difficult and challenging finishing hole #18 beat up most our field (scoring average 6.53). Only two players were able to score par or better on #18: Jim Hopson (4) and Curtis Chan (3).

The course won the battle today, and only those with excellence in course management skills were able to navigate their golf game to minimize the “double –triple bogey” scores. Mike Nelson once again proved he has command of his game by firing the low gross score 78. Both Mike and David Abella shot a front nine 36, but the wheels began to fall off David’s game on the back nine. Low Net honors go to golfing buddies Michael Gibbs and Jim Freitas, who both scored a low net 74. Their strategy today was to keep the ball in play, and try not to 3 putt.

4 Ball Competition: playing partners for this round became 2 man teams for the 4 ball competition. After all the cards were turned in and the best ball scoring was calculated, Team 2 consisting of Michael Gibbs and Jim Freitas turned in the best ball net score of 66, followed closely by Team 7 (Curtis Chan and David Abella (68), and in thrid place Team 8 - Mike Nelson and Bret Herman (69). Team 2 earns the points for this competition.

Quest for the 2009 Seacoast Cup - This year will be been full of fun times on the golf course. We have added a new dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match Play events beginning September 2009. Twelve players will earn their way to this year’s match play event. Points are earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low net score postings. Also points are earned in different team and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best ball, and 2 man best ball events. Net Skins are also another category that allows players to add points to their monthly points.

Remember only those players who have an official SCGA or USGA golf index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian Golf Club Points System. Players who participate in our events who do not have an official golf index / handicap, may be assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for team net play points .
