We all
gathered very early at Encinitas Ranch GC and were excited for
this round of golf. This round would be the final round of our
golf club’s “regular” golf season…those with enough points would
advance to the next part of our golf season… “The Seacoast Cup
Playoffs.” The top 12 players with the most accumulated points
will advance to the “match –play” event, and several players
were in the hunt to make it into the top 12.
Congratulations to Kent Coykendall for posting the low
gross score of 80. Low Net honors goes to Darrin Maglidt
who posted a low net score of 63.
New Faces:
Frank Sung invited some of his working colleages to join our
golf outing…welcome to Tom Poliniko and Jay Ennesser.
Jay kept his game under control and and posted a cool 83 for 4th
place in the low gross.
Also new to
our group, Jerry Kopels (friend of Bill Brackett) who is
visiting from Las Vegas. Jerry reported that the weather last
week in Vegas was over 115° F and he was relishing the nice 75°
F ocean breeze weather of Encinitas Ranch GC.
A big
welcome to Brad Woodworth , who came out to get in
practice round before the Seacoast Golf Extravaganza Tournament
at the end of this month. It turned out that Brad, barely slid
into our event as Dan Anderson decided not to make the drive it
back to North Country SD as he working on projects in San Luis
Obispo. Dan noticed that there was an alternate on the list of
players for this event and he graciously informed the event
committee that he would give up his spot to the alternate.
(Thanks Dan…..but this opened the door for another player to
gain more points in the standings.)
The Top
12 – Congratulations to the following
players who have earned a spot in this year’s Seacoast Cup
Championships: Curtis Chan (1), Kent Coykendall (2), Darryn
Prince (3), Mike Haug (4), Dan Anderson (5), John Jensen (T6),
Darrin Maglidt (T6), Bob Newby (8), Larry Wood (9), Michael
Gibbs (10), Tony Spires (11), and Bill Grow (12).
Competition Notes: Mike Haug posted a
low gross score 83 for a 3rd place finish in today’s
round. Mike’s team play with Kent Coykendall gained 50 more
points for a 1st place finish in team play. These points added
enough to Mike’s year’s total to edge out Dan Anderson who was
positioned 4th on the Seacoast Points Standings board
and also earned him a first round bye. Way to go Mike for making
the big move of the day…jumping from the 6th spot in
the points standing to the 4th spot.
Dan
Anderson, who was gracious to let the alternate play in his
spot, kept him from earning any points and heading off any
pursers who wanted that precious 4th position. Dan
will now have to play in the first round “Wild Card Match.”
Tony Spires
started the day in 13th positioned and needed a good
score to help him earn as many points as possible. Bill
Brackett who was in 12th place knew he was right on
the line to go either way. Both players posted good scores and
played below their playing potential, but Tony Spires came out
ahead and made his way to the 11th spot. Bill
Bracket missed the cut line and almost ended up in a tie with
Bill Grow for the 12th spot. Bill Grow barely
survived the scoring frenzy and edge Bill Bracket by only 10
points. (See Points Leader Board Standings below)
2 Man Low
Net Best Ball – Twenty players were
paired up with playing partners, and a low net best ball
competition was played. Winners would each add 50 points to
their totals. Congratulations go to 2 teams who both scored a
low net team total of 58. Team 3:
Frank Sung / Jay Ennesser
and Team 7: Coykendall / Haug.
On September
26 the winners of the Wild Card Match Play will then be matched
in seeded fashion against the top 4 players (1-4) to make the
“Quarter Finals Match Play.” Then on October 17 the winners of
the Quarter Finals Match will again square off in the Semi
Finals Match Play. The winners of these matches will then
create our final 2 players who will then meet on November 7 for
our Championship Match.
Quest for
the 2008 Seacoast Cup - This year has
been full of fun times on the golf course. We have added a new
dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match
Play events beginning September 2008. Twelve players have
earned their way to this year’s match play event. Points were
earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low
net score postings. Also points were earned in different team
and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best
ball, and 2 man best ball events. Net Skins were also another
category that allowed players to add points to their monthly
points.
Remember
only those players who have an official SCGA or USGA golf
index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian
Golf Club Points System. Players who participate in our events
who do not have an official golf index / handicap, may be
assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for
team net play or for net skin play. For information on how to
obtain an official golf index contact Curtis Chan and visit :
