A brisk beautiful sunny day awaited our field of players at Encinitas Ranch GC. By the time our first group of players made their way off the first tee, the warm sun began to warm things up. The majority of the day we had another "Chamber of Commerce" day to enjoy a day of golf. Many of the players took advantage of the nice day and put that niceness into their golf swings and posted some decent scores.

Welcome to all you new comers for our first event of 2012. We had 31 players participate who began their journey towards the Seacoast Cup. Welcome to new comers: Davy Charvarria, Dave Roberts, Jim Piper, John Grubb, Steve Ferriot, and Anthony Black. We hope you all enjoyed playing with our group and hope you come on out again to enjoy new friendships and a little bit of competition.

Congratulations to Davy Charvarria, who displayed some nice course management skills (and very sound golf swing) by posting a low gross 77. Low Net honors go to Jim Freitas, who must be working on some positive swing changes. Jim posted a low net score 65.

Some notables from the day:

1. Jim Hopson almost pulled off another hole-in-one on hole #12. Last month he was playing with Curtis Chan and after Curtis told him the yardage on the par 3, #12 hole, he proceeded to fly his ball directly into the hole with his 6 iron from 137 yards out. This past Friday, the hole was further back at 147, but Jim again took aim and put his ball right on line and missed the hole by a few inches....he of course won the closest to the pin and won the net skin for this hole.

2. Larry Wood - he went on a "net" skin frenzy and racked up 3 skins on holes 7, 8, and 10. Nice playing Larry !

3. Andy Burich / Justin Frisco - both launched "bombs" off the tee in excess of 300 yards on holes #9 and 18, respectively. Andy's drive was measured at 320 yards driving distance. The Seacoast Cup Rules committee is now deliberating whether we should institute random drug testing for steroidal use on these players.

4. In the Team Waltz Scoring there were 3 teams who all scored the same low net team score. All players in these 3 teams will be awarded 25 points for their team participation and great scoring.

Quest for the 2012 Seacoast Cup- This year will be been full of fun times on the golf course. We have added a new dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match Play events beginning September 2012. Twelve players will earn their way to this year’s match play event. Points are earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low net score postings. Also points are earned in different team and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best ball, and 2 man best ball events. Net Skins are also another category that allows players to add points to their monthly points.

Remember only those players who have an Official SCGA or USGA golf index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian Golf Club Points System. Players who participate in our events who do not have an official golf index / handicap, may be assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for team net play points . Leaderboard - Our top leader for this month is Jim Freitas who has jumped out of the starting blocks and racked up some big points to top our field. The season is just beginning and will continue throughout the year. So get your self to the range, practice some good golf, and come out next time to see if you can get to the top of the leaderboad.,
