Seacoast Christian

Golf Club an affiliate club of the Southern California Golf Association

Encinitas Ranch GC

Friday, January 6, 2010.

We had 18 players in our field today, the first event of our Seacoast Cup Golf Season.  Players showed up early to warm up their swings and get a feel for the beautiful greens that have been nicely manicured over the past months here at Encinitas Ranch.  One big change the players faced today was the number 1 tee that was changed permanently to be the hole closest to the starter’s booth (the former #10 tee).  Most players were accepting of this change, as this was how the original architect of the course envisioned the layout to be.   With this new layout, and a shorter first hole, players now have  a good chance to have an opening scoring par;  compared to the former starting hole (now #10) which mandates a long drive to have a chance at par.

The weather was picture perfect as the morning sun warmed up the cool temperatures.  Within an hour some players complained that they didn’t put on their shorts for their round today.  The course has been positively groomed,  and is shaping up to the golfer's delight,  compared to it’s poor conditions from a few months ago.  Several players proved today that any extra Christmas Holiday treats and meals they enjoyed these past few weeks had no effect on their golf swing.  Today it was all business in scoring points towards the Seacoast Cup 2010.

Those of us who stayed for lunch and hung around the clubhouse after the round actually saw Phil Mickelson in the Pro Shop.  Rumor has it that he was inquiring about how to get in on the Seacoast Cup Points system.  The Club Pro said that Phil heard through the grapevine that the competition in our Seacoast Christian Golf Club was moving to the next level and that the fun and enjoyment guys were having on the course was priceless.  Also he said that Phil Mickelson heard that many guys in the group were showing great improvements in their golf game skills since playing with the group.  Phil's been looking for other ways to take his game to another level.   We'll see if Phil shows up to our next event.

Congratulations to Andy Trees who played steady and posted the low gross score 78 today.  Low net honors goes to Jim Hopson who carefully navigated his game and kept it on cruise control to post a low net 68.  There were 7 net skins won today and the results are posted below.  In Team competition, we had a field of 5 teams.  Those groups that had only 3 players in their group were assigned an extra player in a blind draw to fill their foursome.  Team 5, consisiting of:  Denny Sbarbaro, Bill Borgstadt, Jim Hopson, and Geoff Baynes won the Waltz Team completion.   There were no pin competition holes for today’s event.   Below is the score card and results.

New GHIN Index System – many of you posted your scores on Friday with the new GHIN Computer system which the SCGA has implemented last week.    All SCGA member numbers were assigned a 7 digit member number.  For the majority of our club, this meant a “9” was added to the beginning of your existing membership number.  A few players were assigned an entirely new number.  If you have any problems regarding your member number let me know.  You can post and view your stats at :  SCGA.org   or  visit GHIN.com.   Our club allows players to post their scores online if you we not able to post your scores at the course.  Below is a list of all our club members and their new membership numbers.

Next Event : Friday, February 5, 2010

Quest for the 2010 Seacoast Cup - This year will be been full of fun times on the golf course.  We have added a new dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match Play events beginning September 2010.  Twelve players will earn their way to this year’s match play event.  Points are earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low net score postings.  Also points are earned in different team and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best ball, and 2 man best ball events.  Net Skins are also another category that allows players to add points to their monthly points.  View Match Play 2009

Remember only those players who have an Official SCGA or USGA golf index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian Golf Club Points System.   Players who participate in our events who do not have an official golf index / handicap, may be assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for team net play points .  For information on how to obtain an official golf index contact Curtis Chan and visit : Membership and SCGA

Leaderboard -  On our Leaderboard,  Andy Trees and Jim Hopson have taken the lead for  the top position, followed closely by Al Asakura who is  in third place.  The season is early and there are many more events to come to start adding to your points total.

GHIN Report - Here is the latest "Most Improved Golfer Report"  which tracks your trend in your golf index.  You may also verify and see your new GHIN member number that the SCGA has converted for you for their new system..

Mission

Seacoast Christian Golf Club, is a Men's Golf League that is open to golfers of all levels who desire to have an enjoyable time meeting and playing together with other golfers in the bond of Christian fellowship.

We have at least one event each month.  All our golf outings involve individual stroke gross and net play scoring.  Team play games will be introduced at some events.  All play will conform to USGA rules.  Net scoring will be determined for only those golfers with a current, verifiable official monthly golf index. Players who do not have an official golf index may be given an unofficial golf handicap for team play purposes only. A points scoring system will be applied to the playing field's results and points earned will be determined on each golfer's individual gross and net stroke play.  Extra points may be added to those who win in team competition.
