Seacoast Christian

Golf Club an affiliate club of the Southern California Golf Association

Seacoast Christian Golf Club Outing

Encinitas Ranch GC,  July 16 , 2010

We had 21 players in our field today, the seventh event of our Seacoast Cup Golf Season.

Encinitas Ranch was in good condition as the greens were soft and fair.  We couldn’t ask for nicer golf weather as we remained cool from the coastal breeze, while the rest of the country felt the heat and the beautiful warm sunshine only added to a great day of golf.   Many players took advantage of the accommodating conditions of Encinitas Ranch and scored well below their playing potential.   In the end, several of the all rounds posted proved to be a  for morale booster for many in our field.

We had  two players who showed up for their first event of the year.   Welcome to our group: Bill Buchanan and newcomer Mike Civerolo.    Mike recently graduated from college and will be getting married next year.  In the mean time he is taking advantage of his free time before he begins his new job and has joined our affiliate group to maintain his golf index.  Based on his performance today, he showcased the “A” game, which most of us can only dream to have….a BIG welcome to Mike !!!

Congratulations to Mike Civerolo  who  displayed his golf talents by posting the Low Gross score 68 today .   In 2nd place,  Kent Coykendall, couldn’t keep up with Mike, but was happy to break 80 and post a 79.  In the Low Net category, there was a three way tie for the top position in posting a 65:  Mike Civerolo, Frank Sung, and Bob Newby.   Several players were only 1 or 2 strokes from sharing the low net honors, but Bob Newby (past Seacoast Cup Champion 2007), has pick up his game to make a run for one of the spots in the top 12.   Frank Sung must have been feeling his "A" game coming off his "Extravaganza" golf weekend and smoothly brought his gross score into the 80's.

Below are the results and points standings.  Several players have been jocking for postion and have made their move into the top 12, as our season draws nearer to our playoffs in September.  A few players are within striking distance of making it to the Championship Playoffs...but they need to have a strong finish in our next event:  Bob Newby, Curtis Chan, Darren Maglidt, and Al Asakura.

We had 11 Score Card Match Play matches.  Each player on team who wins will earn 50 points and 25 points will be awarded to players who’s match ends in a tie.   Below are the scorecard and results of the matches.

Posting Scores – many of you are posting your adjusted gross scores at the course.  As an added benefit to our club, Seacoast Christian Golf Club, we all can also post scores from our own computer the new SCGA/GHIN system.  Visit www.SCGA.org  or www.GHIN.com  and follow the links to posting scores.  Remember, to maintain your index current and to insure your index is a reflection of your “true” golf ability, post ALL your golf scores.   If you have any questions regarding posting please contact Curtis Chan or refer to the SCGA website.

Leader Board many players are beginning to make their move towards the top as our golf season progresses to the playoff season in September 2010.  The season is reaching the midpoint but there’s plenty of golf and opportunity to gain the points to make it to the playoffs…so get to the range and tune up your swing.

Below is Friday’s score card and results.

Blind Draw Match PlayIn this competition, the field of players were randomly paired.  Scoredcards were compared in match play competition.  Equitable Stroke Play was instituted and the higher handicap players were allotted strokes according to their course handicap based on their most current index.  Below are the results of the matches.  Winners of each match will earn 50 points for a win or 25 points for a tie.   Since there was an uneven number of players in the field, the unpaired player was paired with a player in a random draw (Dan Anderson).

Next Event :  Friday, August 13, 2010  - The Crossings at Carlsbad,  GC

Quest for the 2010 Seacoast Cup - This year will be been full of fun times on the golf course.  We have added a new dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match Play events beginning September 2010.  Twelve players will earn their way to this year’s match play event.  Points are earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low net score postings.  Also points are earned in different team and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best ball, and 2 man best ball events.  Net Skins are also another category that allows players to add points to their monthly points.

Remember only those players who have an official SCGA or USGA golf index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian Golf Club Points System.   Players who participate in our events who do not have an official golf index / handicap, may be assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for team net play points .  For information on how to obtain an official golf index contact Curtis Chan and visit : Membership and SCGA

Note:  Those players who do not qualify for top 12 "Championship" match play bracket, will have another bracket, "Player's Bracket" , to have match play competition during the end of the playing season (September - November 2010).
