The Crossings at Carlsbad GC

Friday, March 5, 2010

We had 24 players in our field today, the third event of our Seacoast Cup Golf Season.  The course today was challenging and tight.  Several in our fields gave up more shots than they intended and went high with their scores.  A few maintained their composure and played their “A” came and posted  net scores right at their  playing potential.  The weather was just perfect as we can only thank the Lord for granting us such nice sunny days while the rest of our country deals with freezing snow, cold rains, and floods.

Welcome to our group:  Scott Tucker, Lee Fitzgerld, Tom Lange, and Todd DeRenzis.  Some of you new guys have official indices so you qualify to compete in our net scoring as well as match play competition.  If any of you who don’t have an official monthly golf index and are interested in starting one, contact Curtis Chan.

Congratulations to Jon Olson who played his “A” game today and posted the low gross score 78.  Jon kept his putts controlled and didn’t get overtaken by the “3 putt” bug today.  Low Net honors goes to Dan Anderson who posted the low net 71.  Dan kept his composure and didn’t let the course intimidate his game today.

Today’s play also involved out normal comptetions, but instead of team competition, we had a “blind draw” match play competition.  Below are the results:

New GHIN Index System – many of you posted your scores on Friday with the new GHIN Computer system which the SCGA has implemented last week.  With this all SCGA member numbers were assigned a 7 digit member number.  For the majority of our club, this meant a “9” was added to the beginning of your exisiting membership number.  A few players were assigned an entirely new number.  If you have any problems regarding your member number let me know.  You can post and view your stats at :  SCGA.org   or  visit GHIN.com.   Our club allows players to post their scores online if you we not able to post your scores at the course.

players played from white tees.  (Their course handicaps were adjusted accordingly to the ESP (equitable stroke play) rules for competition for players playing from differing tees.)

Blind Draw Match Play – Players with official monthly indices were matched up in blind draw manner.  This makes a field of 21 players.  Players were matched up in random blind draw. A Card off match was done in “Nassau” fashion.  50 points are awarded for the following:  Front Nine Win, Back Nine Win, and 18-Hole win.  All Square (ties) players are both awarded 25 points.

Note:  since there was an uneven number of players, a single player was drawn to add the extra player to the field to complete the match play field.  Bill Grow was the player who was drawn.  Since his score card is used twice, he will only receive points from the better of the two matches that he participated in.

Next Event : Friday, April 2, 2010

Quest for the 2010 Seacoast Cup - This year will be been full of fun times on the golf course.  We have added a new dimension to our club’s monthly event play by having Match Play events beginning September 2010.  Twelve players will earn their way to this year’s match play event.  Points are earned by finishing well in both individual low gross and low net score postings.  Also points are earned in different team and individual events ranging from match play, 4 man team best ball, and 2 man best ball events.  Net Skins are also another category that allows players to add points to their monthly points.  View Match Play 2009

Remember only those players who have an Official SCGA or USGA golf index qualify for low net play and compete in Seacoast Christian Golf Club Points System.   Players who participate in our events who do not have an official golf index / handicap, may be assigned a course handicap and may participate and qualify for team net play points .  For information on how to obtain an official golf index contact Curtis Chan and visit : Membership and SCGA

Leader Board - our top leader is still Denny Sbarbaro, who once again showed his skill in racking up the points to stay on top.  Jim Hopson is in second place and held his position from last month.  Jon Olson has made a big move by climbing from 23rd place to now third.  Last year's Champion, Bret Herman, and runner up, Dan Anderson have made their move to stay in the hunt are now in 4th and 5th place.  The season is still young and a lot of golf is still out there for you to come out and enjoy the fun.
